Offbeat is our annual festival for contemporary performance in partnership with Arts at The Old Fire Station
Programmed by open call, this is a great opportunity to platform your work and we ensure at least 25% of the programme is presented by Oxfordshire based artists.
Offbeat 2021 took place from Tue 22 to Sun 28 June across Burton Taylor Studio, Arts at the Old Fire Station, Gloucester Green and Online. Keep an eye out for information about next year's festival!
In June 2016, Oxford Playhouse and Arts at the Old Fire Station presented the first Offbeat, a brand spanking new festival in the heart of the city showcasing over 50 shows in 7 days that all were new to Oxfordshire.
Since then, every year Offbeat has showcased some of the best new theatre, dance, comedy, music, family shows and spoken word, and was brought to you by upcoming and established artists from Oxfordshire and across the UK.
What people are saying about Offbeat..
"Offbeat is a showcase opportunity for artists from Oxfordshire and beyond. We look for the best up-and-coming contemporary performing artists across the county and nationally. It’s an opportunity for you to take a risk and try showcase new work within a stunningly varied programme across Oxford Playhouse and Arts at the Old Fire Station."
Laura Elliot, Programme Director, Oxford Playhouse
The world is complicated and we need to be able to look at complexity, nurture the talent that will help us understand the world around us better, celebrate difference and retain our sense of humour. Offbeat sums this up.
Jeremy Spafford, Director at The Old Fire Station
Offbeat will create a sustainable platform for new work in the city, whilst playing a significant role in the UK festival circuit, with a long-term focus on artist development.
